- Colombia is working toward a future where citizens will be able to buy crypto via their traditional banking accounts.
- Colombia created a “Sandbox” (or LaArenera) which presents a unique Latin American crypto experiment that kicked off last year after being approved by the government in 2020.
- With this Sandbox, Colombian banks to partner with major crypto exchanges like Binance and Bitso to allow citizens to acquire Bitcoin, Ethereum or other digital assets.
- Financial Superintendence of Colombia published a new regulation draft (see attached below) which was open for public to comment until August 12, 2022. All comments were sent to [email protected]
- The Colombian government is looking at creating a digital currency, local media are reporting. As per a Semana report, the country’s Head of the Colombian Tax and Customs National Authority, Luis Carlos Reyes, argues that the new president will seek to introduce a digital currency to tackle tax evasion that, at the moment, equals around 8% of the country’s GDP.
